Aside from this, fruits and vegetables of these colors tend to also be a good source of folate. This antioxidant is especially important for pregnant mothers because of its ability to prevent neural tube defects in unborn children. Thankfully, most people can easily get enough folate in their diet if they simply eat orange and yellow plant foods on a regular basis.

Common fruits and vegetables of these colors include: mango, carrots, peaches, pumpkin, pears, pineapple, butternut squash and cantaloupe. In general, you’ll want to have anywhere between 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, most of which should be comprised of many different colored varieties. Keep in mind that although simple dietary changes are usually safe, you should always speak to a doctor first before introducing new foods into your diet. That being, said, orange and yellow plant foods due to their health benefits and potent nutritional content should be consumed at least a few times per week.
